Pelsall's Jazz Band

Pelsall's Jazz Band 1909 - Courtesy of Pelsall History Centre
The photograph above, of Pelsall's Jazz Band was taken in 1909. Regrettably nothing is known about Pelsall's Jazz Band. Based on the group and instruments shown, it is clear that this band did perform and the photograph may have been taken before or after a performance.
If you have any knowledge of or any information about Pelsall's Jazz Band, please get in touch.

Moving forward, the next three photographs kindly loaned to me by Steven and Tracie Guest show a far more polished Pelsall Jazz Band performing on stage complete with uniforms and instruments.
Tracie's grandfather, Thomas Ray pictured above was part of the band and played the Saxophone.
Thomas Ray was born on 12th June 1909 and lived at 175 Pelsall Lane, Rushall. In his lifetime Thomas was a miner and served as a Rushall Labour Councillor.
Regrettably, little is known about Thomas Ray and his part in Pelsall's Jazz Band.
Music continued to be a prominent part of the family as Tracies Dad, Thomas Barry Ray and Mike Tolley set up TR Music on Stafford Street, Walsall in the mid 1970's.
If you remember or know anything about Pelsall's Jazz band or Thomas Ray please get in touch.
