In Memory of Eric & John Broomfield Eveson
Late last year, Nick Eveson got in touch with me to share some of his memories about Pelsall. He wrote: Just been looking at your website and it was very interesting. I am an ex Pelsall lad, and my fathers family were a Pelsall family. I have quite a few photos of my father and Grandfather....Eric and John B. Eric played cricket for Pelsall and also owned Lunt and Co.
He worked at Lunt and Co, eventually buying it.

I remember as a little lad Dad would be finishing for the day at Lunt and Co and he would turn off the lights upstairs then we would descend a rickety old staircase to the door on Ash Tree Road.....I hated it.

John B was in the South Staffs Regt during the Great War and is mentioned on the Pelsall Roll of Honour though sadly not in the book written about Pelsall servicemen.

John Broomfield Eveson was in the Royal Field Artillery....served from 1915 to early 1919. The other photograph shows him on the Somme with his regiment ( second from left, back row). John B passed in 1965

Dad (Eric) was born at 47 Walsall Road...sadly demolished now. His father John B was a methodist...see attached membership card....and one of 12 all born in Heath End. I do remember that one of my Aunts lived in Brewers Terrace....also gone...during the Great War. Sadly both her and her 1 year old son passed on the same day...while her husband was on the front line.

I have also attached a photo of Eric taken on his National service (RAF)in the mid 1950s. He is front row centre.

My father, Eric played cricket for Pelsall and is mentioned in the cricket write up on your site. His photo shows him front row left with the team.

My Great Grandfather William was a postie in Pelsall.....attached is a picture of him. He passed in 1933.

Eric died in 2004 and we put a bench at the cricket club....see attached picture. Also I am sending a picture of some of his cricket buddies who attended that day. Hopefully the guys will recognise themselves.
Eric is commemorated on a bench at the cricket club....after he passed in 2004 we thought it would be a nice gesture.

After reading this article, if you have any photos or memories to share, please get in touch, I would be delighted to hear from you.
