Memories of Heath End Pelsall
A few weeks ago I received an email message from Sylvia Morgan, who shared her fond memories of Heath End.
She wrote:
I've just found the info about Heath End.
I was born in Birchin Cottages No 5, along with my two older brothers and younger sister.
I can just make out the seven cottages on the map, we lived in the cottage next to the entry (4 houses 1 side of the entry and three the other).
After the cottages in the 'gulley' Old man Ball (as my father used to call him) had a large allotment that stretched from the cottages to the bottom towards the stepping bridge.
As kids we used to go to the Sunday School on the Walsall Road, I think it was a Mr Clayton and a Mr Parsons who were there at the time. When it closed we used to walk up the Common to the Methodist Chapel in Paradise Lane. Come rain or shine, we had to go every Sunday. My parents weren't religious at all, I think it was just a way of getting us kids from under their feet on Sunday morning.
I remember Mr and Mrs Llewelyn, they had a shop just over the Walsall Road from Birchin Cottages, they lived in a big country house by the Bush pub.
Their property was behind a high wooden fence. The land stretched from the main road right down to the railway embankment. They were a lovely warm friendly couple. They kept a horse named Bryn in the bottom field.
I hope that this recollection has stirred many a memory.
Maybe you lived at Birchin Cottages or remember the area.
If you would like to share your memories or photographs you have of the area, please get in touch, I would be delighted to hear from you.
